From Lübeck in the north to Vienna in the south, with stops in Leipzig, Salzburg, and Wolfenbüttel, we will tour the musical landscape of Germany and Austria in the late 17th century. The fusion of the older German style with the newest trends from Italy and France gave birth to a repertoire of remarkable charm and variety. Instrumental works include two eloquent laments for Emperor Ferdinand III by Schmelzer and Froberger, a sonata for viola da gamba by Buxtehude, and works for string ensemble by Rosenmüller and Biber. Twin Cities favorite Bradley Greenwald joins Lyra for cantatas by Bruhns and Bach.
